Quentin Randolph Toler was born on 6 August 1918 at Caton, Craven County, North Carolina.
He was educated between 1930 and 1931 at Caton School, Caton, Craven County, North Carolina, and was promoted to the 7th grade by his 6th grade teacher, Ruth Hardison Atkinson. He began military service on 20 September 1940 at Fort Bragg, Cumberland County, North Carolina, He was transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he qualified in the 502nd Parachute Battalion (Temporary) as a Parachutist in the United States Army on 18 Aug 1941. On 1 Apr 1942, he attained the rank of Corporal (actually a Technician Fourth Grade).
He departed for the Asia-Pacific Theater as a member of the 503rd Parachute Infantry, Company H, on 20 Oct 1942, participating in battles and campaigns at New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Papua, and Luzon. As a parachutist, he made parachute jumps in close proximity to enemy lines on Marcum Valley, New Guinea, Netherlands Indies, Corregidor, and the Philippine Islands. His mission was to establish communications with companies and batallions in order to more effectively destroy the enemy.
On 1 Jun 1944 he received his Combat Infantry Badge. He broke his leg on 16 Feb 1945 while jumping on Corregidor, for this action he received the Purple Heart on 21 May 1945. He returned to the United States on 27 Jul 1945.
Among the decorations and citations he received were the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars, the American Defense Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 bronze service stars, and the Presidential Unit Citation Badge. He went AWOL for nine days in order to marry in May 1942.



He married Doris Lee Stilley, daughter of Joshua Ivan Stilley and Penny Gray Toler, on 29 May 1942 at New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina.

I have been unable to locate such a child in any surviving records. In the list of children she gave, she failed to mention Noah or Cleve and Mack may have been a nickname for either of those sons.
